The round leaf vine, widespread since time immemorial, especially in southern Tuscany and recently rediscovered, has for years been part of the history of Mocine – Cascina Santa Marta.
Of this vine there is no certain information on its origins: it is already mentioned by Di Rovasenda (1877) who in one of his essays describes the characteristics of this vine present at Brolio. The round leaf, in purity or in assembly, produces wines of considerable polyphenolic richness, characterized by a marked acidity and a good vocation to aging. And Mocine has bet on this vine: thanks to the long collaboration with the well-known winemakers Attilio Pagli and Giacomo Cesari S’Indora was born, pure expression of the Foglia Tonda vine.

The round leaf is also used in the production of Mocine (60% Sangiovese, 35% round leaf and barsaglina, 5% colorino) and of brother Otto Rintocchi, made with the same grapes, but with greater weight for the rare ones.
Recently Mocine participated, as a producer of wines obtained from Foglia tonda, on February 1st at Fattoria del Colle, at the first forum dedicated to the Foglia Foglia grape. An event that saw the participation of nine wine cellars of most of the Tuscan provinces and whose aim was to present, to the specialized press, an overview of the wines obtained from Foglia Tonda grapes in purity or blend.
It was an important event for those producers who in recent years have dedicated small portions of their vines to the cultivation of this ancient variety, and who have had the opportunity to relate, share experiences and observations, to achieve that qualitative excellence that characterizes the oldest and true wine-growing culture.
